The terms and conditions governing trial lessons are intended to complement, but not supersede, the general terms and conditions of our services. By participating in a trial lesson, you acknowledge that all provisions outlined in the general terms and conditions remain in full effect and applicable to your engagement.
1. Booking and payment
1.1 All trial lessons must be booked in advance.
1.2 All fees for trial lessons must be paid in full at least 14 days prior to the scheduled lesson date.
1.3 The fee for one trial lesson (one individual lesson of 20 minutes) is £16.64.
1.4 This fee is non-refundable and must be paid in accordance with the payment terms outlined above.
2. Trial lesson structure
2.1 Each trial lesson consists of a 20-minute session on the instrument requested.
2.2 Extension beyond this time will be at the discretion of HMS and may incur additional charges.
2.3 HMS cannot guarantee the availability of the instrument requested. If this is the case either an alternative instrument or date will be offered.
2.4 Following the initial trial lesson, the bill payer may opt to schedule additional trial lessons on different instruments, subject to availability.
3. Cancellation and rescheduling
3.1 The agreed-upon date and time for the trial lesson cannot be altered, by the customer, if the request is made less than one week prior to the lesson.
3.2 HMS reserves the right to deny any requests for cancellations or rescheduling.
3.3 Changes to the trial lesson will only be accommodated if HMS is unable to deliver the trial lesson.
4.Student supervision and late arrivals
4.1 HMS are not responsible for escorting students to or from the trial lesson.
4.2 Customers are responsible for the student’s arrival and departure.
4.3 Trial lessons will not be extended due to late arrival.
4.4 If the trial lesson starts later, due to an HMS delay, the lesson time will be extended.
5. Liability and duty of care
5.1 HMS has a duty of care for students only during the duration of the trial lesson.
5.2 Outside of the trial lesson, all responsibility for the student’s safety, if under 18, rests with the parents or guardians. This includes within the music premises and surrounding areas (e.g. grass verges and car parks).
5.3 Students over 18 are responsible for their own safety.
5.4 HMS accepts no responsibility or liability for any injury, physical and/or emotional damage, or loss during the trial lesson unless caused directly by HMS negligence.
5.5 Customers must inform HMS of any relevant medical conditions prior to the trail lesson.
5.6 HMS does not accept any liability for loss or damage to customer or students' instruments or personal belongings during the trial lesson or any other HMS activities.
6. Behaviour expectations
6.1. Students are required to conduct themselves in a responsible and courteous manner at all times. For detailed guidelines, please refer to the HMS Behaviour Policy - Behaviour policy
7. Teacher assignment
7.1. Participation in a trial lesson does not guarantee that subsequent lessons will be conducted by the same teacher or at the same day and time as the trial lesson.
8. Availability of lessons
8.1 The trial lesson does not ensure that ongoing lessons will be available.
8.2 Availability is subject to scheduling and teacher capacity.
8.3 Continuedlessons will be subject to the HMS ‘Music lesson and ensemble terms and Conditions’, with all trial lesson terms and conditions being superseded.
9. Refunds
9.1 No refunds will be issued for missed trial lessons unless there is a mutual agreement between HMS and the customer.
9.2 Refunds are not available for partial lessons.
9.3 All refunds are at HMS discretion.
10. Instrument provision
10.1 It is the customers responsibility to provide an instrument for the trial lesson.
10.2 If the student needs an instrument provided, this should be clearly communicated to HMS prior to the lesson, in writing to hmsinstruments@hertfordshire.gov.uk
10.3 Instrument provision is at no extra cost to the customer.
10.4 The cost of any intentional damage or breakages of the instrument, by the student, will be charged to the customer.
11. Data protection
11.1 Personal data provided for the trial lesson will be used solely for communication regarding the lesson and will not be shared with third parties without consent.
